The committee meeting opened at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose
of discussing fire alarms in multi-unit properties. Present were
Fire Chief Don Staiger, Village Administrator Dan Rogers, Council
President Steve Hart and Codes Chairman John Curtis. Chief Staiger
explained his reasoning for the concern. Currently multi-unit
apartments like those on South Delaware aren't specific when it
comes to what residence is having the issue. The alarm to the
Fire station just has a location. The source of the concern could
be in one of many apartments. The current practice would have
safety personnel knocking on doors or worse to find where the
issue is. The Chief stated that other similar places like the
Senior units on Park Avenue dispatch safety personnel to the exact
unit with the issue.
After reviewing existing ordinances and other discussions, the
group decided that Dan and Don would look at the existing building
permit process. Rather than create an ordinance, they will take
a look at current practices and the possibility of a check off
in the permit process that includes the Fire Chief or his representative
when it comes to multi-unit applications. Dan will report back
to the committee at a later date. Chief Staiger left at approximately
6:20 p.m.
Dan, Steve and John then looked at a couple of examples of existing
Ohio animal waste control ordinances. We reviewed them and marked
one sample ordinance up for consideration. Dan will run it by
Solicitor Matt Griffith before presenting anything to Council.
The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
